Principles of Adolescent Substance Use Disorder Treatment

Recent research has lead to major developments in our understanding of adolescent substance abuse. This Course addresses the distinct nature of adolescent substance abuse and treatment. Participants will explore the fundamental aspects of substance abuse during these critical years. Additionally, Participants will understand why people are most likely to begin abusing substances during this time period. Participants will also learn how the appropriate intensity and length of treatment for these disorders is determined. Lastly, Participants will be exposed to the various effective treatment approaches for adolescents.

• Learn about the serious social and health risks associated with repeated substance use
• Understand how drug use can develop into a substance use disorder
• Consider how adolescents differ from adults in drug use and treatment needs
• Recognize the guidelines for determining appropriate intensity and length of treatment
• Identify the most common adolescent drug abuse treatment settings
