Florida Telehealth Laws for Online and Distance Counseling

Description: This course serves as an introduction to Telehealth for Mental Health Professionals and Social Workers. This course will serve as both an introduction to Telehealth for Mental Health Professionals and Social Workers and an explanation of the ethics related to Distance Counseling and the different formats of delivery. 

The American Counseling Association “ACA” Code of Ethics sets forth the ethical obligations of ACA members and provides guidance intended to inform the ethical practice of professional counselors.

The Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling "Florida Board of CSW, MFT, and MHC" held a special meeting on April 3, 2020 to file emergency rule revisions to Rule 64B4ER20-24 - Electronic Service Delivery ("Teletherapy") as well as a resolution authorizing the Executive Director and Chairperson to approve certain waivers to facilitate licensure and practice during the current emergency, thereby expanding telehealth access. We will explore the emergency rule and how it impacts professionals.

Course Objectives: During this course, the following objectives will be completed:

• Learn the about the formats of delivery for Telehealth Definitions associated with Telehealth
• Learn about the National Board for Certified Counselors “NBCC” Policy Regarding the Provision of Distance Professional Services
• Learn about the ACA Guidelines on Setting up on your Video Workspace
• Learn about the ACA Code of Ethics on Distance Counseling, Technology, and Social Media
• Learn about the newly revised Rule 64B4ER20-24- Electronic Service Delivery form the Florida Board of CSW, MFT & MHC
